Gabi just keeps on Weaving

First it was pot holders on a loom, then t-shirt rugs on a hula hoop, and now it's weaving scarves on her fingers.

Hula Weaving

Gabi is really into weaving right now, so we tried this project we found online to cut up old t-shirts and weave the strips on a hula hoop. I hope everyone likes weaving b/c I think she's making a lot of Christmas presents!

Juice Box Robots

Micah is "star student" this week, so he is line leader, has show & tell, and could bring a special treat to share. Micah has been thinking about robots a lot lately. He told someone at church he wants to be a a mechanical engineer, and he's disappointed that he's only studied living things in science so far: "I really need to learn about electricity and machines so I can build a robot, mom."

So- We got a little crafty and made juice box robots for his class. I used glue dots to stick together the juice box bodies with starburst necks, Smarties arms, and mini raisin box heads.


Then Micah (and Gabi and I some) added stickers to be faces and buttons and gizmos on the robots. Each one is unique! They were a big hit with the first graders.

Presidental LEGOs

We went to the Clinton Museum & Library today-- mostly to see the Lego sculpture exhibit and it was very cool:

But somewhat to my surprise the kids both really got a kick out of the cabinet room and the oval office replica and of course posed for goofy pictures:

Sewing Sock Snakes

Micah's first sewing project-- he wanted to make a snake. I helped him stuff a pair of too-small socks and then he used a needle & thread to sew the open ends together.


He cut a tongue from felt and colored the pattern with markers. His name is Spotter.

Gabi made her own snake, too.

Summer Arts Camp
