Gabi the Great's Magic Show

Signs, Signs, Everywhere Signs

Micah's kindergarten teacher asked that students work on handwriting for homework, so he made this sign for his door.

Gabi instantly retaliated.

But somehow that didn't stop him from crawling into her bed this morning like he does most every day. But at least he did his homework!

Three Stripes

"Mom, I really like my new stripe."

Micah also got invited to graduate to the next belt on September 16 at 5:30 if you want to come see some Tiny Tigers do karate!

Movies

Due to the crazy heat, we've seen more movies than usual lately. Toy Story 3 was awesome. Just us girls saw Ramona & Beezus-- it inspired Gabi to start working her way through all the Ramona books she can lay her hands on. Micah and his friend with the big red bow (and the moms) saw a cute free movie at breckinridge before school started (but the popcorn and sprite weren't free!) And just last weekend we saw the new Nanny McPhee movie, which was adorable. And the movie theater had this fun display set up for the new Narnia movie- but I think it'll be a renter!

First Day 2010

Back to school!

Last Day of Summer in Wonderland

We spend our last Friday before school started back at the Museum of Discovery-- we didn't want to miss our chance to crawl through the rabbit hole into the exhibit on Alice in Wonderland. Fun stuff!

Awwwwwww

Best Buddy Benjamin came by to play on his way home from vacation. They enjoyed each other's company a lot! But Micah was sad when he went home. We got him out his favorite Batman PJs that have a cape and Gabi made his hair into a faux-hawk, but he was still kind of sad and missing his out-of-town buddy.

Eventually a dash of Mo Willems (his favorite author) got him giggling, though!

Kats

Just some of the results at my attempts to play with camera settings to get better pictures of the kitty cats. Meow.

How do you say Arts Camp in Chinese?

Gabi spent the mornings last week at an arts camp at the local university. She took four classes- Musical Theater Dance (also known as "Singing and Dancing at the Same Time!!"), Chinese Language and Culture, Chinese Brush Painting, and Magic ("Junior Wizard School"). The Magic classes she thoroughly enjoyed and she is working on pulling coins out from behind people's ears. The singing and dancing at the same time is nothing new to her, but she found it good to be with others of her kind. The real treat were the Chinese classes.... she has had a fascination with China for a long time. So, she can now say "hello, my name is Gabi," count to 10 (and write 1-10 in Chinese characters- that's the first picture), and name some family members in Mandarin. She also had a lesson on using chopsticks properly. The class learned the traditional methods for painting panda, bamboo, birds, dragons, fish....

... and this is how you write Gabi in calligraphy!
