Juice Box Robots

Micah is "star student" this week, so he is line leader, has show & tell, and could bring a special treat to share. Micah has been thinking about robots a lot lately. He told someone at church he wants to be a a mechanical engineer, and he's disappointed that he's only studied living things in science so far: "I really need to learn about electricity and machines so I can build a robot, mom."

So- We got a little crafty and made juice box robots for his class. I used glue dots to stick together the juice box bodies with starburst necks, Smarties arms, and mini raisin box heads.


Then Micah (and Gabi and I some) added stickers to be faces and buttons and gizmos on the robots. Each one is unique! They were a big hit with the first graders.

Back to school

Summer's nearly over so it's time to pluck the feathers from Gabi's hair. Luckily, we were able to find another pretty brunette who could wear them year round.

The Rain Forest

The capybara was built and the time had come for Rain forest tours! And wow! Very impressive!

Capybara Building

The third graders at Gabi's school always cap their year off with a rainforest project. Each student chooses an animal to research and write a paper about. Every student draws the animal for the class t-shirt (above) and makes a model. Gabi chose the capybara, also known as the giant hamster.


So we built an armature of tape and recycled plastic containers, and covered it with clay.


Then she painted it.


And attached it to painted cardboard. She wanted it to look like it was in the water, so she only built the top of the capybara.



But made it look like it was climbing up the bank so she could highlight it's webbed foot.


Add some ripples in the water and you've got a capybara!


The third graders will be giving rainforest tours, too!
