Max & Ruby Storytime
Some of our favorite books to read are the Max & Ruby series by Rosemary Wells. The characters are a pair of sibling bunnies, Max being the 3 year old who doesn't say much but is always making big plans, and Ruby being the smart, mothering yet bossy big sister who talks way too much to listen sometimes (sound familiar?). This is a video of Gabi reading part of Bunny Cakes to her brother at bedtime. In the story both bunnies are trying to make a cake for their grandma for her birthday. Ruby is making a fancy cake with raspberry fluff icing and buttercream roses. Max keeps interrupting Ruby's baking by spilling ingredients in the kitchen, so she has to send him to the store repeatedly with lists to replace what he spills. Max meanwhile is making an earthworm cake and really wants red hot marshmallow squirters to use with his caterpillar icing, but he can't say that so he keeps trying to write it on the lists but the grocer can't interpret his scribbles, either. In the end, he solves the problem by drawing the squirting candy on the list, inspired by Ruby's drawing of Max with a red slash through it that she makes to keep him out of the kitchen.

Micah's Birthday: the 4ce is with him

All of Micah's grandparents plus assorted other cool relatives (such as cousin Jessie, Unlce Neal, Papa Jack, and Aunt Pet above) came to the house today for a Star Wars themed birthday party. It was a lot of fun! We ate pizza and cake - yes, again! When you let a four year old pick the menu, there is a lot of pizza and cake!
I made a light saber cake, but somehow got no pictures.
But, see, Uncle Neal took lots of pictures, so I hope he'll send me some. He took so many pictures, that I have multiple pictures of my dear brother with camera in hand.
He got a lot of Star Wars toys. Post Christmas birthdays benefit from the clearance sales, I speak from experience here as a January baby myself.

Thanks everyone for the cool stuff and visiting us today!
Happy Birthday Micah!

Lego my Lego!
Micah and his buddies are going to eat pizza and play games to celebrate his 4th birthday tomorrow. These are supposed to look like LEGOs. He thinks his birthday cake is cool.

I'm no Duff, but at least four year-olds are easy to impress!

these boots were made for walking

Gabi is a native-born Texan, which she says means she needs boots. Must be true, because she has worn out two pair of hot pink cowgirl boots. This new pair of black ones took much searching to find some good for everyday playground wear and she aspires that they will actually get to "ride the range" in true Texas fashion. We'll see, but in the mean time they at least make a great fashion statement.

I smell cookies!

Before Christmas, Gabi and I tried a new sugar cookie recipe and she wrote about it at school. Instead of decorating with sprinkles, you paint them with a dye and egg yolk glaze before you bake them, then add details in a white icing once they cool. Painted cookies! What could be better? I thought I had taken a picture of them, because they were such pretty cookies, but I can't find the picture in my files. So, you'll have to make them yourself to see how nicely they turn out. If you doubt the 8 cups of flour baked for 2 minutes at 3 degrees is quite right, you can find a more precise recipe at a favorite blog, The Pioneer Woman.

Ahsoka, the Jedi Girl from Star Wars
High School Musical 4: The Wedding

Gabi got this cool Barbie party cruise ship for Christmas. It's very nifty- it opens up to a whole interior set with a kitchen, bedroom, swimming pool, and even a disco ball with lights.

The first thing Gabi did was set it up and put all her Barbies in the pool. Then she grabbed her two dolls from High School Musical, put them in Ken and Barbie's wedding clothes and staged cruise-ship nuptials under the light of the disco ball.

Attention: Family of Jedi Master Micah
Got nothing to do? Well, there's a....
Gabi's favorite thing about her new keyboard may just be the music it plays on the "demo" setting. She regularly has a dance party in her room. This time Micah enjoyed watching the dance party while he ate popcorn, but sometimes he joins in with some booty shaking. Want to come dance along?
