Red Socks

Noticing that Micah had worn red socks for several days in a row, I dared to ask if it was the same pair. "No, mom, don't worry-- I switched to another red pair after the third day."

Candy Theology

Micah quote of the day:

"God made mamas to take away your candy, but he made grandmas to give you more."

Heads or Tails.... or?

Micah was using a nickel to flip a coin and he looked at me like I'm crazy when I called tails. "Mom, there's just a head or a house. There's no tail on here."

Micah Has a Question....

"Why do they call these clothes 'unicorns'?"

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Micah said...

....that he wants to be a super hero who has the power to lift heavy things and to tell funny stories. He is a pretty funny kid. He even made up a new catchphrase:
"Your waffle is still frozen!!!"
The phrase can be used to tell someone that they're not ready, they're not quite with it, or just that they are too silly. The phrase may also speak to the fact that the boy would like to live off of Eggo Nutrigrain blueberry waffles.

Micahisms

Micah heard me talking to Gabi about being in bed by 8:15 and he asked, "Do I have to eat fifteen, too?"

Word of the Day: Antident

I haven't posted about any of Micah's created words lately, but today he asked me if I'd ever had an antident. I had to request a translation of the word "antident" from Micahese to English and this is the official Micah definition: "An antident is when a nice ant, not a fire ant, bites you and then he says he's sorry, becuase he didn't mean to, because he's a nice ant. It was an accident. That's an antident." Well, of course. What else could an antident be?

Literal Translation

I was working on the computer, and Micah was anxious for me to finish and do something with him. He was getting insistent, and I said, "Just hold your horses!"

He went and got his stick horse.

CatWoman and Toothpaste

On a recent ice day off school, the kids watched some Batman cartoons then decided to be some of the "bad guys." Gabi is being Cat Woman. Micah told me he was being Toothpaste. I have finally figured out he's talking about Two Face (the half bad- half good guy), but he still insists the man's name is Toothpaste.

Random funny things they say.....

Gabi is planning to join a rock band. She says her job will be pretending to play a guitar while the CD plays the music behind her. And she might write some songs.

As I was pulling out the bank drive-through after making my transaction, Micah and I had this conversation about the contents of the canister:
Micah: Are there suckers?
Mommy: No, not this time.
Micah: Are there stickers?
Mommy: Nope, sorry.
Micah: Then what's in there?!
Mommy: Money.
Micah: Oh man! I don't love that.

We were riding in the car and Gabi was trying to pick something up, but couldn't reach it. Micah had an easy solution: "Sissy, use the force!"

Don't Worry, Mom

I lost Micah today. We'd been having playgroup at church and after everyone was leaving I was gathering up some of the items I take to be recycled. I looked around, and Micah wasn't there. I started calling, no answer. He wasn't back in Blake's office or in the bathroom. I looked all over. Then I get a glimpse of him through the glass door, and he's standing out in the middle of the parking lot. Apparently, when I'd gone into a room he didn't see me and had gone looking for me at the van. I run over and call him back in and I went on and on about how he shouldn't go out by himself, especially not out where there could be cars.

His reply?

"Don't worry, Mom, I looked both ways."

Micah said....

We went to the state park this weekend to hike around and hang out with some friends. I'll post pics later, but Micah made an observation worth sharing.... we pulled up to the overlook and there stands what remains of an old CCC-built stone lodge. As we walked up the path toward the rock building, Micah said, "The big bad wolf couldn't blow that house down!"

He's also been working on his list for Santa. He's up to five things so far:
1. a light saber
2. storm trooper
3. webkinz bear
4. donuts
5. an apple

(I don't know why the apple is on the list as he eats one most every day, but I guess he just likes them so much he wants a spare for Christmas.)

Fair Trade?

The first grade teacher told the class to write sentences using the word "swap," because they are working on s-blend words (sl, sk, sm, sn, sk, sw etc.) Gabi said she doesn't really like to trade things so it took a bit to think of what and with whom she might swap. But, she had a pretty smart idea in the end and here is what she wrote:

"Gabi found a little brown pinny. I swapped it for a big green dollr."

Who do you think she plans to make this swap with? Well, as you can see by the cowlick, her little brother gets to be the guy who looses ninety-nine cents.

He knew it was Star-something

"Mama, I gots my light saber! Let's play Starbucks!"

They said....

Gabi got chased by a dog at the playground. She's OK, but got scared to death. The dog owners apologized and felt very bad. It took a while for Gabi to calm down, but she did and climbed to the top of the slide, turned toward the people with the dog across the way and said in her naturally quite loud but very prim and proper voice, "That dog is really not well behaved."

On a lighter note:
Micah said to me, "Mama, are you thinking about cooking a cake? 'Cause I'm thinking about eating some."

A Church Micahism

In addition to starting back to preschool this week, Micah also has a new preschool Sunday school class at church. Which means he comes to parts of the "big church" worship service. Today was the first time in recent memory he took communion. After he drank his juice and ate his wafer, he said, "That cracker needs some cheese."

Gabi's Creed

In first grade, Gabi is learning her school's creed and song. Here's how the creed goes:

Dwight Creed

  • I am a college bound Dwight Elementary Student.

  • I have great expectations for myself.

  • I accept the challenge to become the best that I can.

  • I am respectful, responsible, safe, and prepared.

  • I will do nothing to keep the teacher from teaching, and anyone, myself included, from learning.

  • I will dream big.

Isn't that great? And what's even greater is that Gabs keeps saying, "I have great explanations for myself." LOL!!! Ask her to say the creed and sing you the Dwight Chiefs song next time you see her.

Micah's in an ad... sort of

You may remember Micah's classic statement that when he cries, it rains on his cheeks, well...

I post some on an internet site for moms, and they have places to contribute pictures, stories, and cute things kids say. Apparently they think Micah really has a way with words because they are using his "kidism" for an ad for their new site. Admittedly, they placed his words in some little girl's mouth, but hey. We were hoping for some publicity for the boy.
